Yesterday, the EU ambassadors again failed to reach an agreement on the conclusions for the start of negotiations with the Republic of North Macedonia. Bulgaria continues to insist that the requirements of its track record be included in the text, which has not yet been accepted by other member states. This is what the electronic edition of the opposition Skopje “Kurir” writes, quoted by the agency “FOCUS”.
Consultations continue in an attempt to reach a consensus in the EU Council of Ministers on December 8 and unblock the situation. Officially, Skopje remains optimistic that a solution will be found with Bulgaria and admits that the time until the ministerial meeting is short, but will try until the last moment for a positive solution.
Sofia has not yet officially announced whether a breakthrough is possible and the unlocking of the negotiating framework by December 8, which should pave the way for the first intergovernmental conference and the opening of talks between North Macedonia and the EU. Diplomats in Brussels told MIA that the situation regarding Bulgaria’s veto to start negotiations with North Macedonia remains unchanged for the moment, despite the great efforts of all other EU member states.
