At night, there is hardly any traffic at the car checkpoint heading towards Turkey. In the opposite direction, however, there are queues. All those who took advantage of the last day without a PCR test to go to the Edirne market were waiting to return to our country. Both traders and the Border Police expect these to be the last queues at Kapitan Andreevo in the next three months, and for now the Turkish government has announced that a negative PCR test will be mandatory for all participants at least until March.
People from all over Bulgaria went to the Edirne market, because everything there, according to them, is cheaper. Food in Edirne is also half price, say others who travel every week. However, the requirement for a negative PCR test will increase the cost of the trip to Edirne by at least BGN 100 per person. The measure is until March and many people will abstain until then. Before the measure went into effect, “Kapitan Andreevo” was informed of record traffic.
“On Monday, there were about 18,000 passengers with about 8,000 motor vehicles, which is close to the records we have in the summer when guest workers are walking,” said Emil Gochev, head of the border checkpoint.
The negative PCR requirement also applies to truck drivers. However, it will not stop the transport of goods. Although commerce is the main source of livelihood in Edirne, a month ago doctors warned that due to the increase in the number of patients, the regime of entry into the country should be tightened. Currently, the measure applies only to those entering Turkey. So far, Bulgaria does not require a negative PCR test from those who enter our territory, reports btv.
