Masks become mandatory in classrooms for students in grades 5-12 and recommended for elementary school students. All social partners propose the measure. It will go into effect on November 30, when all students will return to classrooms on time.
The social partners and the Minister of Education, Krassimir Valchev, came together for the new measure.
Parents and students do not support the mandatory wearing of masks in class, according to a study of leading organizations in the field of education. Again, according to the same study, almost all principals and teachers are of the opinion that student masks should be mandatory. As a reason for this, they report the serious growth of bad educators. That is why the teachers presented a proposal to the Ministry of Education and Science to make the masks mandatory. From there they accepted the measure.
At school on time. Fully present – 1st grade only
According to the plan, after November 27, all students will return to classrooms, but as scheduled. Therefore, about 50% of the children will be in schools every day. That is why the use of masks will be mandatory.
“It will be mandatory for students in grades 5-12, recommended for students in grades 1-4. This is the only way to keep teachers alive,” said Diyan Stamatov, president of the Employers’ Union of the Public Education System in Bulgaria / SRSNPB /.
The mandatory use of masks by students is the only way for the learning process to develop safely for teachers, the main organizations of the education system are categorical. However, parents respond.
“I don’t think it’s a very good idea. I practically don’t know if it will be possible, otherwise, as an idea for the protection of teachers, yes,” says Tsvetelina Semkova.
The measure will be ineffective if children wear only one mask a day at school, pediatricians recall. “Every parent must put three masks in a clean plastic bag and the child must learn to change them every two hours, otherwise it can have the opposite effect, because they are soaked with saliva, humidity, and it is known that where there is heat and humidity it has microorganisms that grow very violently, “said Dr. Pavlina Andreeva, pediatrician at 14th DCC, Sofia.
According to her, there will be no problem with the discipline of the little ones. “But wild teenagers deeply doubt that they will work. Poor teachers,” he added.
When parents choose to have their children stay home
He quickly gets used to the masks, reassuring the fourth graders of school 119 in Sofia, who already have experience wearing them. “Since the pandemic emerged, my mother told me to wear a mask and that I can wear a mask since then. It is not difficult for me,” Lachezar Mihailov said. And he added: “I got used to it in 4 days, at first I was suffocating a lot and could barely breathe.”
“It’s not that bad,” says Boyan Petkov.
“There was a slight suffocation, it was not the most pleasant, but you get used to it,” Thomas Ivanov said.
“It even helps me not to spit when I beatboxing,” says Kristian Dikhonov.
The measure of mandatory masks in class takes effect on November 30, when all students will return to the scheduled class. However, this will happen according to a strict scheme. First they will have to decide for the regional and municipal headquarters, RHI and only then make local decisions on the part of the schools, one of the three options to learn on schedule and hybrid, with separate classes, one at school and one in front of the computer .
