The long-awaited derby between Manchester City and Liverpool did not live up to expectations and both teams finished 1: 1. The first half was much more interesting, as Mohamed Salah put the Reds ahead with a penalty in the 13th minute, and Gabriel Jesus equalized in the 31st. In the end, Kevin De Bruyne missed a penalty by missing the penalty spot.

Thus, Liverpool lost the first place in the standings and is now third with 17 points, like Tottenham second, and the leader is Leicester with 18. Manchester City is in eleventh place with 12 points, but one game less .

Liverpool got off to a strong start and in the first minute Alexander-Arnold made a great pass to Firmino behind the City defense. The Brazilian hit the ball past Ederson, but then failed to tame it and reach it. Soon after, Manet attempted to drop a ball to Salah, but Ruben Dias correctly intervened and cleared.

Liverpool’s best game continued and in the 11th minute Jurgen Klopp’s men were awarded a penalty. Manet felt contact with Kyle Walker and fell into the penalty area, and the referee pointed to the white spot. Salah shot hard and left Ederson with no chances 1: 0.

The hosts argued for a long time, because seconds before Manet’s fall in a similar situation at the other end of the field no infraction was awarded against Stirling.

Little by little, City shook off the initial shock and in the 25th minute created a great opportunity for an equalizer. Weinaldum made a mistake passing the ball and Kevin De Bruyne made a wonderful diagonal pass to Stirling. The Englishman was greedy and instead of going to the only point Gabriel Jesus, he tried to score from a small angle, but Alison killed.

However, in the 31st minute City managed to equalize. De Bruyne found Jesus in the penalty area, who deftly walked away from Alexander-Arnold with one tap, and with the next one sent the ball into the door – 1: 1.

On the next attack, De Bruyne fired hard from the edge of the box, but the ball went inches off the crossbar. De Bruyne was again involved in the most interesting situation until the end of the half. The Belgian crossed from the right wing in the 41st minute, and the ball was deflected into Joe Gomez’s hand. The referee “consulted” with the VAR and pointed to the white dot. However, De Bruyne did not hit the door from the penalty and thus deprived his team of a change of course. And seconds before the end of the first half, Liverpool came close to scoring again, but an Alexander-Arnold shot missed the target.

The second half was even and the first opportunity was opened for Jota. The Portuguese tried to take advantage of a bad ball deflected by Ederson, which Walker faked, but then failed to make a shot.

In the 55th minute Jesús was exposed after a good cross from Joao Cancello, but failed to finish off with a header. After an hour of play, Liverpool claimed a second penalty after a shot from Jota was stopped at Cancello’s hand. However, it was glued to the Portuguese’s body and the referee did not point to the white spot for the third time in the match.

Soon after, a new key player for the “reds” was replaced due to injury. Alexander-Arnold was unable to continue the match and was replaced by James Milner.

In the end, the pace of the game slowed and both teams were satisfied with 1 point each.
