During the same period, a fifth of all national highways were rehabilitated and built
Since November 2014, when the second GERB cabinet came to power, 204 km of new roads have been built in Bulgaria and 3,815 km of first-class roads have been rehabilitated or built, ie. almost a fifth of the 20,000 kilometers of the national road network. This is stated in a report from the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA), provided “24 hours”.
Detailed estimates show that the 204.7 km of newly built motorways include 17 km of Europe, which were put into operation a few days ago. The entire road will be 48 km long and will connect the capital with the Kalotina border checkpoint, that is, for the first time in Bulgaria there will be a border-to-border highway, from the Bulgarian-Serbian to the Bulgarian-Turkish.
During the second GERB term, the Maritsa highway, connecting Trakia with Svilengrad, was completed and the last 68 km were built.
Also 75.8 km of “Struma” were completed during this time and from this road, in practice, currently only the most difficult section remains: through the Kresna gorge.
About 23 km of Hemus have been built with national funding and work is currently underway on almost 100 km.
The Northern Speed Tangent, 16.5 km long, was built entirely, as well as 8.5 km from the Western Arch of the Sofia Beltway, with the help of which heavy traffic can circumvent the capital, traveling on a road with highway dimensions. The “Balgarovo” road junction at the end of the “Trakia” road on the Orizovo – Burgas section is also completed.
Out of 3,815 first-class roads rehabilitated or built, 75,186 km are completely new. Newly built ones include the Pomorie, Vratsa, Gabrovo and Montana ring roads. One of the busiest routes in the summer tourist season has been extended from Bourgas to Sunny Beach.
Of the second and third class roads, 685.7 km have been rehabilitated and rebuilt. Among them are Asenovgrad-Smolyan, Mezdra-Nov Iskar, Borovan-Kneja, Yundola-Yakoruda, Razlog-Bansko-Gotse Delchev-Sadovo, Elhovo-Burgas, Stara Zagora-Radnevo, Plovdiv-Asenovgrad, Lovech-Troyan, Burgas-Tsarevo , Momchilgrad-Ivaylovgrad, Vratsa-Ledenika cave and many others.
Currently, 172 km of new sections of the national road network are being built and 986 km of repair works are being carried out.
For the first time inside these two cabinets old road installations were repaired, which have not been touched since their construction and have become dangerous. such are the tunnels and viaducts of the Hemus Highway. The tunnels, for example, did not meet modern European requirements and were equipped with new lighting, fire alarm and alarm systems, and cross connections were built between the individual pipes. The rehabilitation of the last of them, “Vitinya”, will be completed after the New Year.
The viaducts of the Trakia highway have also been repaired and the section between Chirpan and Stara Zagora, built in the previous decade, is currently being repaired.
