Fewer hospitalizations were issued this year many times in the context of the large number of patients and in isolation due to the coronavirus. This is shown with the data available for NOVA.
What this means?
If we look at the figures from the National Social Security Institute, in October of this year some 230,000 sick leave were accepted. This is almost 11,400 less than in the same period last year.
In 2020, the total number of sick leave accepted so far is just over 2,250,000, almost 378,000 less than in 2019.
Only 36,000 of those hospitalized this year are in coronavirus quarantine.
In Sofia 125 SU “Boyan Penev” recently it became clear that teachers with positive tests for COVID are already 16. Therefore, the principal makes a decision: to connect. And the infected teachers are sick, but their condition allows them to teach from home.
“One of the advantages of distance education is that 8 colleagues who are ill do not take sick leave, but work from home,” explained director Venelina Nikolova.
And GPs admit, with the onset of the pandemic instead of patients for hospital and employer begging.
“In the spring, employers put more pressure on us to issue sick leave. Then the panic was great and if he sneezes at work, his employer sends him out,” explained GP Dr. Atanas Peltekov.
Meanwhile, the sick continue to work from home, in the form of a home office. Therefore, the number of hospital stays is decreasing and the difference from last year is felt for another reason: the suspension of the planned admission in hospitals. However, patient organizations defined the distorted statistics as a time bomb.
3,945 new people infected with COVID-19 and 47 died in 24 hours
“People got scared and didn’t go to the doctor. Planned operations are 90% of all operations. In other words, when the activity of the hospitals has decreased by 90%, it is logical that the number of hospitals will also decrease ”, explained Dr. Stoycho Katsarov.
“We once experienced this after the first closure of the first wave. When patients came in after that and they were already in the late stage, when we could no longer help,” explained Dr. Zoran Stankov, Invasive Cardiology Clinic, City Clinic .
At the beginning of the pandemic, doctors warned of the opposite effect, which is expected after the cessation of planned interventions and diagnoses.
The consequences, they say, will now be even more serious. It is clear from the INE report that the mortality rate has also increased since the end of June. An example is the last week of October, in which the death toll was 652 more, compared to 2019, an average of between 20 and 30 more compared to the same period last year.
