More and more Bulgarians are receiving a pension of more than BGN 900. This is demonstrated by data from the National Institute of Social Security, writes “Trud.”
At the end of September, the pensioners who receive a basic monthly pension, without supplements, above BGN 900 up to a ceiling of BGN 1,200 are 115,112 people.
In comparison, at the end of June, Bulgarians with a pension above BGN 900 numbered 93,560 people or in three months the wealthy retirees increased by almost 22,000 people.
At the end of September, 31,319 people received between BGN 900 and 1,000. By comparison, at the end of June, nearly 27,800 retirees could boast such a pension.
The number of people receiving old age is also increasing from 1,000 to 1,100 BGN per month. There were almost 24,000 of them at the end of the nine months, compared to 20,400 at the end of June. Almost 60,000 retirees receive between 1,100 and a ceiling: 1,200 BGN at the end of September, three months earlier, their number was just over 45,300 people, according to NSSI data.
One reason for the growth of wealthy retirees is the increase in all pensions since July 1 by 6.7% under Swiss rule. According to this indexation, the average increase in pensions was BGN 30. 2,092,916 people received a promotion and 31,213 people did not. The increase cost almost BGN 64 million to the treasury.
At the same time, the number of people receiving up to BGN 250 per month is decreasing, which is the minimum pension for seniority and age as of July 1.
According to the Social Security Institute, at the end of the first half of the year, 888,000 pensioners received up to 250 BGN per month, and three months later their number dropped to 704,000. However, 6 other people have taken advantage of the privilege of not having a pension ceiling.
According to the Social Security Code, the pension cap does not apply to people who have been presidents, vice-presidents, prime ministers, presidents of the National Assembly, and constitutional judges.
It is not clear what the exact amount the privileged receive per month is. More than 1,200 BGN were received by 41 people at the end of September, while at the end of June their number was 35 people.
