Manchester City have created a real hell for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The “Citizens” won 3: 1 as guests and seriously shook Frank Lampard’s chair as manager of the “blues”.
Guardiola’s team played a very strong first half, after which they had a three-goal lead. Gundogan (18 ‘), Fouden (21’) and De Bruyne (34 ‘) killed the intrigue before the break, and at the end of the match Callum Hudson-Odoy (90 + 2’) scored an honorable goal, which turned out to be extremely insufficient.
The good form in which Manchester City is, continues, and in 11 consecutive games in all tournaments they have not lost.
Josep Gaurdiola’s problems were related to the absence of six players who tested positive for coronavirus. That is why the last game of the ‘citizens’ last year, in which they had to visit Everton, was canceled.
On the other hand, the game crisis at Chelsea deepens after the team has managed just one win in its last six matches.
In addition, what is undoubtedly worrying is the performance of the “blue” defense, who even today did not perform at a level and allowed 3 goals. Even more concerning is that given the situations on your doorstep, this is the least they could get away with.
With the defeat, Londoners were left with 26 points in eighth place, while City climbed to fifth place in the standings.
The “Sky Blues” collected an asset of 29 points, 4 from the leaders Liverpool and rival city United, but with one game less.
Early in the game, the “citizens” door debutant – Zack Stephen, acted unexpectedly and caught the ball returned by his teammate. Logically, the referee ruled a foul in the penalty area, but there was no danger from the subsequent free kick.
After a quarter of an hour of play, Kevin De Bruyne could not find the result from a clear position. The Belgian was wonderfully taken out by Cancello and, face to face with Edouard Mendy, fired inches from the crossbar.
However, just 120 seconds later, Gundogan did. The midfielder received the ball at the edge of the penalty area, eliminated Thiago Silva with a false move and with a well-measured shot he did not leave chances for the base of the “blues”.
The guests took advantage of their current dominance and in the 20th minute struck a second blow to Chelsea’s ambitions. Once again during the season, the Londoners’ defense acted ugly and Fouden was exposed near the gate and rose to 2-0.
In the 34th minute, Cante tried to clear the opponent’s penalty area, but his pass was blocked, after which Stirling came out alone against Mandy.
The Englishman was busy in his actions, but still managed to hit, which, however, he ran into the crossbar. Fortunately for the “sky blues” the ball ended up in De Bruyne, and from his position the City captain could not miss – 3: 0.
At the end of the first half, Guardiola’s players organized a quick counterattack, which ended with a spectacular performance with a fifth from Gundogan, but his shot missed the target.
5 minutes after the break, Zinchenko also tried to threaten the opponent’s goal, but the shot did not have the necessary speed and Mandy intervened without problems.
A little later, the French guard showed an incredible reflex after Rodry shot hard with his head at point-blank range and only a good intervention prevented a fourth goal.
Given the assured advance, City slowed down and allowed the opponent to control the ball more. However, the hosts could not find a way to Stephen’s door.
In the last minutes of the game, which was played for a while, De Bruyne took a direct free kick in front of the penalty area, but the ball bounced off the wall and went to the corner.
At the end of the game, the hosts caught the “citizens” defense off guard and Haverz found striker Hudson-Odoy, who sent the ball into the net, shaping the final score.
