President Rosen Plevneliev (2012-2017) told Nova TV that “there is a problem with the way the prosecution operates.” According to him, there is a selectivity in his work. His comment came after Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev reported a series of successes late last week in his report to parliament on the prosecution’s activities from January 1 to August 31, 2020.
“Half of the oligarchs have been hit hard, but the other half have not. This shows selectivity,” Plevneliev said, without giving specific names. He stressed that the prosecution has been working intensively in recent months. What Geshev reported the most is his report read here.
Plevneliev again criticized current President Rumen Radev, accusing him of not respecting the constitution and, at the same time, claiming that he fought for the rule of law. According to him, the head of state does not have the right to demand the resignations of the chief prosecutor, the prime minister and the parliament.
“This is the most direct path to dictatorship. How can strategic investments reach the country when the president speaks of mobs and mafias,” he added, after which he also commented on the protests that have been carried out for more than 3 months.
“It is not good for Bulgaria if there are early elections, because it will strengthen the positions of the populists, such as Rumen Radev, Slavi Trifonov, Maya Manolova and Cornelia Ninova,” Plevneliev added.
According to him, the European Parliament resolution on Bulgaria is “an act of total opposition by the Bulgarians against the Bulgarians”.
