The Supreme Judicial Council is discussing the request of the Judges Union to initiate a procedure for the early dismissal of Ivan Geshev from his post.
Citizens demanding the resignation of the chief prosecutor are currently protesting in front of the council building. Only Boyan Magdalinchev and the journalists are in the building today. All staff are online, bTV reported.
There were also citizens outside chanting “Geshev is a shame” and “Resignation”. Geshev himself left the meeting after declaring himself a “defender of those abandoned by the state.” There were also disputes over whether to debate Geshev’s resignation and whether he should attend.
Around 2 o’clock, until 12 o’clock, it is discussed whether the SJC should discuss the issue of the early removal of Ivan Geshev from office.
“These people abandoned by the state should receive the protection they deserve from the state, which they deserved during the long years they worked,” said Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev.
“Do you think that since you are a member of the SJC, we only deal with the issues that you prioritize so that the main issue is not reached – what is happening and what is happening and what does it reflect on the image of statehood in Bulgaria? said Lozan Panov, president of the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Plovdiv lawyers announced that if early release is not reached today, they will discuss whether to initiate strike action.
