After a meeting of German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the heads of the 16 German provinces, it became clear that the rules for social distance in Germany will run until at least May 3, according to world agencies. But some stores may resume work next week.
After the meeting, Merkel told reporters that the measures in Germany so far have led to “fragile interim success” in fighting the epidemic.
He added that provincial governments recommend that citizens wear protective masks while shopping and on public transportation. That is why the authorities generally recommend wearing masks.
The chancellor added that the country’s schools could resume work in phases starting April 4.
Merkel has also announced a relaxation of the restrictions, which will result in the opening of some stores on April 20. She explained that these are stores with an area of less than 800 square meters.
Many people’s gatherings, such as sporting events or concerts, will remain banned until at least August 31, according to a document produced by the chancellor and the leaders of the 16 provinces and published in the press.
Merkel assured that the hospitals in the country are not overcrowded. However, she said there would be no religious services for now.
Merkel explained that further relaxation of the rules will depend on how the rate of infection spread develops.
The chancellor said authorities are now working on an app to track people infected with the coronavirus.
Vice Chancellor and Minister of Sport of Austria Werner Kogler announces a new step towards the normalization of life in the country. Some sports facilities in Austria will open on May 1. The measure will be implemented gradually with “logic and common sense,” said the vice chancellor. As long as a study has shown that a distance of one meter is not enough when exercising, since breathing is deeper, a distance of 10 meters will be required when running and 20 meters when cycling.
A special regulation will regulate the rules for elite athletes for whom sport is a profession. They will be able to train from April 20.
