People are excited about this question: why has only been talked about the death of COVID-19 lately, when there are other diseases that cause death?
And is only the coronavirus to blame for the deaths of those reported in current statistics? The results of all autopsies of people with COVID-19 were analyzed at the University Clinic in Aachen, reports DW.
More than 13,000 COVID-19 patients have died so far in Germany. Not all were subjected to an autopsy. But the cases in which this has been done answer a very common question: was the coronavirus the real cause of his death?
At the Aachen University Clinic, during the first wave of the pandemic, they kept a special registry in which they collected and analyzed autopsy data from coronavirus patients from all over Germany.
The analysis shows that 85% of all patients died from injuries caused by the coronavirus.
Although the data is not yet representative, due to the relatively small number of autopsies performed, according to the doctors, this is the trend. “The vast majority of patients in Germany die as a result of COVID-19,” said Christian Karajanidis from the Cologne Merheim Pulmonary Clinic.
Public law media WDR reported that pathologists have analyzed the results of 250 autopsies of COVID-19 patients, data from another 600 autopsies has yet to be analyzed. Doctors hope these studies will help study the insidious disease and its consequences.
