GERB collected signatures for the new constitution after changes were made. This was made clear during a briefing by Daniela Daritkova, GERB’s PG president, and Iskren Veselinov from IMRO. The project will be uploaded to the website of the National Assembly.

The ruling coalition has a total of 116 votes. The missing votes came from the WILL group and independent deputies.

“We reorganized the points and members of the original version. We recorded a preamble, as IMRO colleagues wanted. We have eliminated the possibility of a legislative initiative of the judiciary. We have explicitly written the text of the Law of the Coat of Arms in the constitution. There are a number of other changes, “Daritkova announced.

“I am grateful to the colleagues who supported our project: IMRO partners, NFSB, as well as part of VOLIA’s PG and independent parliamentarians. An interesting and fruitful debate is coming,” said Daritkova.

“The negotiations lasted two days. The project that we are currently presenting is of a general nature and responds to the main criticisms of the original. In practice, it has almost nothing to do with the original project. The most important thing for us is to continue being the preamble, the state of a single nation. We add the commitment of the state to defend national values and traditions, “said Iskren Veselinov.

According to him, the project focuses on promoting the birth rate, the return of people of Bulgarian origin from abroad, and for the first time it is recorded that voting is a civic duty.

“The text remains that marriage is concluded only between a man and a woman,” added Veselinov. According to him, they have not agreed on the introduction of an educational vote qualification, as well as on the expansion of presidential powers. IMRO proposed that the head of state be given a legislative initiative.
