Parliament rejected the BSP’s request that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov be heard in the National Assembly on his position on the development of relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, after Sofia officially blocked the start of talks on Tuesday. Skopje with the European Union. The reason for the BSP was that the request was quite well intentioned, as the parliament should have the floor on these issues.
GERB also believes that the National Assembly should be an active part in the negotiations, but refrained from supporting the request. However, at the same time, Deputy Prime Ministers Ekaterina Zaharieva and Krassimir Karakachanov suggested that they be heard.
“The two relevant deputy prime ministers are systematically participating in the negotiations so far and could provide the most precise and accurate information,” said GERB deputy Hristo Gadzhev.
Ekaterina Zaharieva is Foreign Minister, but IMRO leader Krassimir Karakachanov does not include foreign policy or neighborhood relations. However, he participated in all the talks and parliament sent him to parliament on Friday to announce that Sofia would not support the start of talks between Skopje and the EU.
The two deputy prime ministers will provide information to parliament this afternoon.
This is another moment when GERB refuses to call the Prime Minister in the National Assembly. The last time Borissov spoke in parliament was at the end of April, when he was heard about the coronavirus crisis at the request of the BSP.
