The BSP strongly opposes the “pre-Christmas gift” prepared by the Municipality of Sofia for tomorrow for BGN 5 million to the concessionaire MTK OOD, which provides intercity transport.

The reaction from the left was announced at a briefing in the National Assembly by BSP deputy Rumen Gechev.

He pointed out that according to a signed contract, when the prices of petroleum products changed by more than 20% and annual inflation by more than 5%, the Municipality of Sofia had to change the prices of the concession service. The Municipality did not do that and it is not clear why, it was made clear in the briefing.

“Why has the Sofia City Council not done its job and why have the prices not been updated according to the contract? Because prices have not only risen but also fallen both in terms of petroleum products and in terms of inflation, as during this period in Bulgaria, has there been deflation? ”asked Professor Gechev.

The socialist recalled that in 2012 the government also donated more than BGN 3 million to another transport company. “Why does the Municipality of Sofia continue with gifts in the millions because it has not done its job?” The MP criticized the local authorities of the city.

Gechev stressed that this is happening at a time when people die on hospital stairs and at a time when the municipality of Sofia is forced to cut costs.

“We held a meeting of the Sofia City Council, in which we decided to oblige the BSP municipal councilors to withdraw their signatures from the report prepared by the working group. We authorize and oblige our representatives in the municipality of Sofia to vote against donating taxpayers’ money ”, Rumen Gechev was categorical.

The deputy also addressed the government: “We ask you to withdraw this harmful and damaging report from Sofia. Otherwise, we will present a signal to the prosecutor’s office against the mayor of Sofia for the illegal drainage of the budget of the municipality of Sofia”, warned Rumen Gechev.
