The Varna Court of Appeal partially annulled the acquittal of the Varna District Court against Veselin Mareshki and sentenced him to “prison” for a period of 4 years in general regime and a fine of BGN 8,000. This was announced by the press service of the court.

The other defendant in the case, Krassimira Koleva, must serve 3 years and 6 months in prison under a general regime and pay a fine of BGN 6,000. The court also announced:

Both were found guilty that from October 9 to November 16, 2014, to force Asen M. to pay a monthly amount of 10,000 BGN, they threatened to demolish the establishment he administered and the establishment of The act was accompanied by destruction and property damage. civil claims remain disrespectful: BGN 40,000 – compensation for moral damages and BGN 14,838.37 – for property damage.

At the previous hearing, the court panel found it necessary to clarify the property relations between Veselin and Krassimira. Therefore, the court requested a reference to the Registration Agency and questioned a witness. Today in the courtroom it became clear that due to a loan of BGN 65 thousand, a contractual mortgage was established between the defendant’s wife, in his capacity as manager of a company, and Krassimira K.

Once the appeal court’s investigation was completed, the arguments of the parties proceeded. Representatives of the state prosecutor’s office explained that Krassimira’s financial debt to Veselin was the reason for her actions. The threats, accompanied by the subsequent destruction of property, were aimed at “breaking the will and motivating the victim Asen M. to start paying extortion money.” The prosecution and the private prosecutor asked the appeals court to admit the guilt of the two defendants.

Veselin Mareshki’s defense believes that he did not commit any crime. He had no reason for this, since Krassimira had no property obligation to him. He helped her without any material interest. The lawyers of both defendants asked the court to ignore the protest of the prosecution and the complaint of a private prosecutor and to confirm the acquittal issued by the Varna District Court.

The reasons for the verdict of the Court of Appeal – Varna will be prepared within the legal period of two months. The judicial act is subject to review of cassation.
