After a performance by Rafi Bohosyan in the image of the King of Folk, the juror left his seat and declared that what he saw was “horrifying”. Azis accused him of racism and viewers erupted in a lawsuit to expel the rocker from the show. All of this turned out to be just one of many battles in the war between Funky and Azis, which has been going on for 13 years.
Monday’s “Like Two Drops of Water” show went from an entertaining show to a political show, bringing to light the issue of racism, homophobia and tolerance. Rafi Bohosyan appeared on stage, disguised, made up and in high heels as Azis in the interpretation of his hit “Saint Tropez”, which has been viewed more than 100 million times on the Internet. The Armenian did a great job imitating Kostinbrod’s interpreter. However, instead of congratulating him on his good work, Dimitar Kovachev-Funky left his place on the show’s jury. He announced that he couldn’t bear the sight of Rafi-Azis or the song he performed.
“But what’s wrong with you? Get down on the ground! It was horrible! I don’t know what to say!” Said Funky.
According to him, the make-up and disguised Rafi does not look like Azis, but rather “a Latin American Indian who accidentally took the wrong direction and is taking a nap in Bulgaria.” Azis himself reacted with a smile to all this, but shortly before the end of the show he made it clear that it was not funny at all. Regarding the ratings of the show’s contestants on each other, the Kostinbrod singer took the floor and accused Funky of racism. “Funky’s frankly racist attitude towards the image – my image, that is, Rafi, is disgusting and vulgar … And this somewhat demotivates – while you’re on stage, someone to be on the jury – what is their job , and to leave, to leave, that is, he is so upset that he cannot look at it. It is sad “, the King of Folk was categorical. To the observation of the presenters that” Drops “is an entertainment program, he replied:
“That wasn’t funny. It was disgusting.”
Funky, in turn, waited his turn to qualify to defend his position. “Dear Vasco, first of all, the intellectual baggage that I carry prevents me from being a simpleton. Second, I went out not to say what I think of what I heard and saw. After all, I am an educated musician and I have pretensions that . ” Azis couldn’t help it: “And we are amateurs, should I understand that?” He asked. Funky’s response was brief: “You can understand everything however you want.”
Interestingly, the subject of the dispute, Rafi Bohosyan, declined to comment. Asked by reporters the day after the fight, he said he didn’t want to interfere because it was an exchange of comments between Funky and Azis, and he had nothing to do. “My job was to get into the picture. I think I did well. I don’t want to comment on this scandal, I respect both Azis and Funky enough,” Rafi said in Armenian.
However, the war between the folk singer and the judge rocker did not start on Monday. It came on in 2008, when Dimitar Kovachev joined the jury for the “Music Idol” show on BTV. There he saw Azis live for the first time and decided to praise him in an interview. But his praise is expressed in such a way that it repels Vasco and turns him against the promoter forever. “I’m very surprised by Azis. I thought he was a unique drummer,” Funky said. According to him, Vasco answered “very well” the questions asked in the program. But the producer doubts that he could have met them in advance to prepare.
These words have stabbed into the heart of Azis, whose trace remains to this day. Over the years, the gap between the two has widened. Funky is known for his tendency to choose the light genre, which infuriated Vasco. Only now, however, is he allowed to give public expression to his insult and resentment, using as an excuse that another artist, namely Rafi, has been affected.
People with good memories remember that Azis and Funky have many appearances together on the small screen. A few years after participating in “Music Idol”, they play prisoners in the BTV series “More citizens in Sofia”. They are said to have maintained civilized but extremely cold relations on the ground. The two artists avoided communicating with each other, as if they were waging a “cold war.” This is happening in 2014. A year later, Azis entered as a participant in “Like Two Drops of Water”, where Funky was part of the jury. The singer managed to finish second in the show, just ahead of Nencho Balabanov. But his good ranking does not come from Kovachev’s valuations. In addition, the producer systematically neglected him, comparing his performance with that of Deliana Marinova-Dwarf, who regularly receives the minimum number of points and remains last in the final. Now, 6 years later, Azis is back under the blows of Funky. Probably to quell the conflict, the hosts regularly take the producer’s word after the Rome idol’s performances and he doesn’t even speak. This happened, for example, on the March 22 show, when Azis took on the role of the 80s disco star Sandra. Regarding the jury’s evaluation, Gero and Zueka announced that they did not want to hear Dimitar Kovachev’s opinion and gave the floor directly to Toncho Tokmakchiev. Last Monday, however, they failed to contain the tension.
Although it was an unpleasant sight, the scandal drastically raised Azis’s rating, which until that moment was the last in the ranking. With his words at the end, he caused viewers to flood the show’s official page with comments, attacking Funky and supporting Vasco. They mobilized to vote for him in the image of Ogi Tsolov from “Factor”, in which he entered, and thus they gave him the first place of the evening. Rafi, whose performance became the bone of contention, came in second, writes “Weekend.”
