For the first time in 800 years: the star of Bethlehem will illuminate the sky

This will happen on December 21

The two largest planets in the solar system are about to “collide” in an extremely rare event not seen since the Middle Ages. On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will be so close that they will look like a “double planet”, a conjunction that from Earth will look like a bright point of light.

“Since March 4, 1226, there has been no closer arrangement of these objects visible in the night sky,” Patrick Hartigan, an astronomer at Rice University, told Forbes.

This phenomenon is known as the “Christmas Star” or the “Star of Bethlehem”. In fact, many believe that the legendary star in the history of the Magi may be a rare triple connection between Jupiter, Saturn and Venus.

According to Forbes, the event will be visible anywhere the sky is clear for about an hour after sunset on December 21, the day of the winter solstice. This phenomenon will not occur again until March 15, 2080.
