FINAL: The party of May 24 with a new name

This is after the approved amendments to the Labor Code.

Parliament finally changed the name of the national holiday on May 24. From “Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and of Slavic Writing” it became “Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature”. This follows the amendments to the Labor Code approved today, which received the support of the parliamentarians of GERB, United Patriots and VOLIA.

May 24 will no longer be the day of Slavic writing

The MRF also supported the name change, expressed by the chairman of the Labor and Social Policy Commission, Hassan Ademov. A strong “against” position was supported by opposition from the BSP group and non-member MPs, who call themselves “progressive socialists”.

Discussion on this issue has no place in the Labor Code, said Georgi Gokov of the BSP, according to whom the discussion should have taken place in the academic sphere and only then be transferred to the plenary room.

Scientists in dispute over the new name of the holiday May 24

The initial proposal from the Patriots group envisaged that May 24 be called Bulgarian Literature, Education and Culture Day, but between the two readings of the bill it was corrected.
