“I refused to be president of Bulgaria”! This exclusive recognition is made by Russian legend with Bulgarian roots Filip Kirkorov. In a conversation on a Russian program, the Varna man revealed that in 2000 a newly formed Bulgarian party offered him to run for president, Bulgaria Today reports.

Kirkorov emphasizes that his popularity in the homeland at the beginning of the millennium is enormous.

“For the Bulgarians, it was like Gagarin, they respect me a lot,” Kirkorov told the hosts.

He says that politicians come to him with a proposal to form a party together and that he be their presidential candidate.

“They told me: we are going to have a party, we have a proposal for you. People love you very much, how do you see participating in the elections?” At first I took it as a joke, but then everything was backed up by quite serious documents, ”the pop legend recalls the incident.

Kirkorov admits he was seduced by the idea, but in the end things fell through.

“I imagined that it would take 4 years, and then I would be the only president-singer in the world and everyone would invite me to give concerts,” Kirkorov joked.

An obstacle in the constitution has interrupted Filip Kirkorov’s political career since its inception. To become President of Bulgaria, you must have lived in your homeland for the past five years.

“I’m glad it didn’t work, because now when I look at these poor people who are ex-artists and go down the road of politics,” admits Bedros Kirkorov’s son.
