He stressed that there was a real chance that the problem would be solved in 2018, but then parents’ organizations passed an amendment to reduce the number of children in a group and immediately left 3,000 children without a daycare. In her fourth term alone, Fandakova finally devised a grand plan for 67 new kindergartens in the capital by 2023, which will open 282 new clusters and thus provide 6,400 new places. However, the mayor assured again that the implementation of the goal will depend solely on his joint association with the regional mayors.
Fix: fewer children in a group
“We started with 33,000 places in kindergartens in 2006. In 2018, we already had 49,000 children in kindergartens and a minimal shortage. Faced with such data, any leader cannot help but conclude that in fact, with many, With little effort, scarcity will be overcome. groups, but in the end some 3,000 children were suddenly left out of kindergartens, “said Fandakova.
Even on Wednesday, promising 67 new kindergartens in three years, the mayor warned that this would only happen if the district mayors partnered with her.
“This task for the new kindergartens can only be fulfilled jointly by the regional mayors and myself. The children of Sofia benefit from them,” said Fandakova. For months he has been transferring the problem to the mayors and reiterates that he has given them instructions to find new places to build kindergartens.
“Anyone who is ready with the land found, the completed project, the building permit and the selected contractor will immediately receive the financing to begin construction,” he said.
Where is it being built?
Fandakova clarified that 12 new buildings are currently being built in the capital, and the mayor of Sofia expects to begin construction of three more in November: in Gorna Banya, Vazrazhdane, Seslavtsi and four more, where extensions are underway with the opening. new groups. In 2021, a total of 31 new restaurants are planned to be built. Most of the new buildings will be built in the Lozenets region – 8 buildings, in Mladost – 7 and in Vitosha – 6.

Fandakova noted that new sites are planned in the 24 districts of Sofia.
