Out of respect for the presidential institution, we will keep information on the meetings of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the President and members of his team and what requests were made to them, the ministry writes.
On the occasion press release from the administration of President Remen Radev We would like to make the following clarifications, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement:
The Bulgarian government has repeatedly expressed the position that it would not be appropriate for the presidency of the “Three Seas” initiative to replace Bulgaria in 2021, but it is better to postpone it in 2022. The reason is that next year’s elections for assembly and for the Head of State and in this tense situation the executive would have difficulties to organize the events of this initiative well. The presidency includes not only a summit with heads of state, but a series of meetings in various ministerial and business formats, in which the policy of the member states to implement the main objectives: the connectivity of the regions between the North, Black seas and Adriatic. In fact, the role of the president in this initiative is more of a front, and the ministries do the real work on it.
Despite our opinion, and at the insistence of the President of Bulgaria, the government has already promised to organize this presidency:
Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva has been appointed as the national coordinator and the ministries concerned are creating a coordinating council to organize the initiatives.
The government has already decided to allow a country to participate in the Three Seas investment fund for 20 million euros with specific projects that involve various ministries.
A specially appointed ambassador for special assignments for the “Three Seas” was sent to Estonia with President Radev.
All initiatives will be prepared during the presidency in 2021.
In conclusion, we draw attention to the fact that the national interest outside Bulgaria requires that the institutions work in sync in accordance with the country’s foreign policy objectives. Therefore, out of respect for the presidential institution, we will keep information on the meetings of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the President and members of his team and what requests were made to them.
Although President Radev calls the legitimately elected Bulgarian government “Mutri”, he is willing to organize and occupy the presidency of the “Three Seas”, whose face will be the Bulgarian president.
