The Foreign Ministry, in the person of Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, made a scandalous mess in an attempt to condemn the anti-government protests.
Raising false news about BNT, according to which the organizers of the anti-government protests announced the convening of the People’s Court in the National Assembly Square, Georgiev called an urgent briefing.
“Bulgaria is once again a country that is witnessing a very gloomy and ugly reference to the past. The fact that the protest organizers informed us how a people’s court will be convened brings back some very ugly and sad memories. Some sad memories of the totalitarian past, with which Bulgaria has been trying to break away for so many years “, Georgiev said and added:
“Democracy, peace, stability do not presuppose that we are talking about a bloody massacre, gallows and assassinations. If we want to walk together today, united on the path of progress, we cannot allow the people’s court to be a lit torch in Bulgaria. Streets.”
Georgiev’s main responsibility is fighting anti-Semitism and hate speech. Before becoming deputy minister, he was president of the GERB youth organization.

The so-called “poisonous trio”, which is the initiator of the protests, denied having organized such an event.
BNT admitted the mistake and apologized to viewers.
“BNT apologizes to its viewers for inaccurate information on the morning news of September 8, 2020, and the guilty publisher will be disciplined. BNT does not and will not tolerate the distribution of news with false content.”
It later became clear that Georgiev had not checked the news, but he was quick to condemn the protest. He did not understand that the news had been downloaded.
“The authenticity of the information must be said by those who disseminated it and by whom it comes. I just saw on the official website, in the most official media, that there is such a thing. We cannot help reacting. Can you imagine that many people connected: angry, upset, wondering exactly what was going on “, Georgiev commented, quoted by BGNES.
The initiative to convene a “people’s court” was launched by activists from the Vazrazhdane party. The information was reported in BNT on September 5.
So far, Georg Georgiev has not publicly distinguished himself as a deputy minister, but in recent days he has increasingly emerged as the head of government anti-protest propaganda. Last week, he came out with a detailed position condemning hanging with rubber dolls dangling from them and anonymous coffins with coffins, which the GERB activist attributed to the protesters. However, the organizers of the demonstrations announced that they had nothing to do with the compromising action in question, which was most likely the work of opponents of the protests to discredit them on the day of the Great Popular Uprising. Georg Georgiev was ready with his position against the protesters early in the morning and was circulated again in the media before there was no evidence of who the perpetrator was, which the police promised to investigate. GERB is particularly insistent on trying to equate the entire protest with a sinister action by people threatening with gallows and coffins and even raising this issue before a committee of the European Parliament, which met to discuss the rule of law in Bulgaria. According to GERB MEP Emil Radev, MEPs have condemned the use of pitchforks and coffins by protesters. His claim was refuted, even by the EP.
