Experts from the Institute of Road Safety found gaps in a section of the Trakia highway that was repaired a few days ago, whose renovation costs more than the construction of the section. They are the first 12 kilometers of a total of 52, located between the crossroads of Chirpan and Stara Zagora.
On Thursday the work in the direction of Burgas was completed on the section between the “Belozem” and “Orizovo” road junctions, and now the road is being renovated in the opposite direction.
In the already repaired section of the Highway Safety Institute, they found that there were no drainage ditches. This can cause water retention in the canvas and cause hydroplaning. As for the laid asphalt, experts believe that there are no irregularities. They are also satisfied with the railings, signs and markings in place.
The repair of the Trakia highway from the Chirpan junction to the Stara Zagora junction costs BGN 89 million in one direction, and not as announced a year ago: BGN 60 million. This makes about 1.7 million per kilometer per direction at an average of 1.35. million in the construction of the section.
Work is now under way on a part of the Trakia highway, built between 1995 and 2000. Subsequently, a section will be renovated for commissioning in 2007.
The contractor is the state-owned Avtomagistrali, which received orders for more than BGN 4 billion for a year for the construction of new roads and the repair of old ones.
