The president of the Bulgarian Prosecutors Association, Evgeni Ivanov, turned out to be the only candidate for the SJC membership of the prosecutor quota. He will officially assume office after Saturday’s vote, taking over the final vacancy of Daniela Masheva, who became deputy attorney general and left the SJC.

“Every time the prosecution works, it is exposed to attacks, criticism and attacks. Those who most want that the prosecution is not independent, in my opinion, are the politicians. Every political power wants to have a comfortable judiciary, respectively a prosecution” , said. versus BNT Evgeni Ivanov.

Added that the independence of the prosecution is guaranteed by law, and in our country it is guaranteed at the highest level – the constitutional.

“I have always said that the prosecutor’s profession is noble, but ungrateful. Colleagues work and when they work so much, and the prosecution has been working at full speed for the last 6 months, then it hurts my colleagues more because they don’t do it for gratitude, but not to criticize them so much and without reason ”, the prosecutor in the BNT Morning Block was blunt.

When asked whether the prosecution should leave the judiciary, he replied that the prosecution should be part of the judiciary, because this is the highest degree of guarantee of the independence of the prosecution and prosecutors.

“For me, the greatest achievement of democracy in our country is precisely that the prosecution is part of the judiciary and must remain there, because it is harsh and miserable for a country that does not have an independent prosecutor’s office,” Ivanov said.

According to him, the legislation that prosecutors work with is outdated and needs to be modernized.. He gave the example of the Criminal Code, but added: “The biggest problem is the Criminal Procedure Code, extremely difficult to use, quite formalized, it has requirements that we meet, but they make it difficult for us to do our job well and on time.” .
