BGN 2,500 per month is needed for parents with two children for maintenance

One in five families in Bulgaria has overdue debts and has had difficulty paying their bills during the pandemic, CITUB reported.

Bulgaria ranks first in the EU in the percentage of people who have difficulties repaying consumer loans and credits.

It takes BGN 2,508 to support a family of four, the union said. On average, the household spends 1,221 BGN on food and 1,287 BGN on non-food goods. Compared with the previous quarter, food prices, including meat and meat products, fell 0.8%, while fruits and vegetables fell 4.8%. However, the price of bread increased by an average of 1.2%, legumes by 1.6%.

Overall, food products have a price increase of almost 4% compared to September 2019. Higher housing costs are the reason for the growth of non-food products by 1.1%. Electricity, heating and fuels have risen 3.9% and education has risen in price 2.5%.

Blagoevgrad and Vidin still have the lowest average wages: BGN 922 and 945. The scissors in the standard of living by region are great. 2 million Bulgarians live on incomes of up to BGN 300. 32% of households are on the brink of poverty and 2/3 of the population (67.6%) do not have the necessary income to support themselves.

Almost 45% of Europeans work from home due to COVID, and in our country, only 25.6%.

With the State measures, 300 thousand jobs have been preserved, but CITUB wants even more accessible mechanisms and that the unemployment benefit is 17 BGN.
