IN A belt commission will study the costs of public funds related to overcoming the consequences of the spread of COVID-19, BTA reported.

The BSP proposal received unanimous support from 199 deputies.

The deputies elected Yordan Tsonev from the MRF as chairman of the temporary COVID commission, BGNES.

The Commission will not have a Vice President.

The commission will be composed of 10 members, two from each parliamentary group, a president and a vice president. “For” there were 202 deputies, one abstained.

It will work for the duration of the emergency measures.

It will request and publish information on all expenditures of public funds, including EU funds intended to combat the pandemic.

This is what the deputies commented on the subject:

“For years we have witnessed that the governments of the GERB, not just the latter, spend the money of the Bulgarian taxpayers in a non-transparent way, with subjective decisions and, sometimes, with partisan prejudices.” Therefore, BSP leader Cornelia Ninova argued for the left’s proposal to create a temporary commission to monitor budget expenditures to deal with the COVID crisis, BGNES reported.

“We think it is good that the government does not have a leadership position, that is, that they do not have a presidency.” That is why we believe that it should be given, as proposed, to an opposition party. We also believe that this should not be the BSP group. Not for nothing else, not because we do not respect the colleague whom he will nominate for president, but because we believe that, in fact, the purpose of establishing this commission is different, “Alexander Nenkov told left-wing lawmakers, cited by BGNES.

According to him, the state spends the funds in a sufficiently transparent way, the data is public and any interested person can verify “how each penny of the state budget is spent.”

“If the chairman of the commission that will oversee how state funds are spent to overcome the COVID crisis comes from the BSP, it can be used for purely political purposes.” This doubt was expressed by the Vice President of Parliament and NFSB leader Valeri Simeonov, quoted by BGNES.
