At today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the National Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria for Pandemic Preparedness was also approved. On this basis, it will be possible in the future to develop specific pandemic plans to deal with specific diseases if society is faced with another pandemic.
The main objective of the National Plan is to reduce morbidity, reduce mortality from pandemic infection and, at the same time, provide optimal treatment options for patients. It describes the organization of the actions necessary to maintain the functioning of key sectors and services for public life, the provision of information to the public about the course of the pandemic and the measures taken. The document clearly defines the coordination between the sectors and the different administrative levels, indicating who will be responsible for each activity from the stages of the pandemic and this changes depending on its severity and impact. Existing structures and mechanisms for emergency response in the public and private sectors are expected to be used to respond to a pandemic.
