The fight against the coronavirus requires joint efforts, cooperation and solidarity. This is the common position of the heads of state of Bulgaria and Turkey, Rumen Radev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had a telephone conversation on Friday at the initiative of the Turkish president, the secretary of state said.

The Bulgarian head of state raised the issue of facilitating the transport of Bulgarian citizens with cancer, whose salvage treatment is being carried out in hospitals in Turkey.

President Erdogan has promised to raise the issue of the resolution in the relevant ministries.

The Turkish President called for the flexibility and authorization of Bulgaria’s ethanol exports to Turkey necessary for the production of disinfectants. President Radev indicated that as soon as possible, our country would prioritize restoring ethanol supplies to its neighbor.

Faced with this crisis, Bulgaria and Turkey have again proved to be good friends and neighbors, the two presidents said.

Rumen Radev appreciated the timely decision by the Turkish side to move heavy trucks across the Bulgarian-Turkish border without applying a 14-day quarantine to drivers, which is important not only for both countries but also for Europe.

To end the recently introduced practice of transit of Turkish citizens passing through Bulgaria in advance through a diplomatic or consular mission on their trip, Erdogan called.

Radev congratulated his Turkish counterpart on the measures taken to combat the coronavirus and provide social and economic support to those affected, which would mitigate the negative effects of the crisis.

The Bulgarian head of state expressed his appreciation for Turkey’s rapid response, which was the first to provide our country with medical supplies and protective equipment.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s help in evacuating 46 Bulgarian citizens from Morocco.
