Eight teenagers died from carbon monoxide poisoning on New Year’s Eve in Bosnia and Herzegovina, local media reported, citing officially confirmed information, DPA reported.
Dnevni Avaz quoted local sources as saying that eight teenagers had died. All sources indicate that the cause of the accident was a faulty generator. The youth group gathered to celebrate the New Year at a guest house.
Four girls and four boys arrived at the scene. The victims were between 18 and 19 years old.
“There were other young people in the neighboring village celebrating the New Year. They were the first to notice that no one was entering or leaving the nearby villa, even though they had been seen before and knew it must be full of guests. So they decided to check, the door was closed, but one of them managed to get to the ground floor and saw the young people. He also gave a signal to the police, ”said Commissioner Milan Galic, quoted by Klix.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina media also released images of the devastated parents’ arrival.
They can barely stand up, crushed by pain and grief, as the inhabitants of Posushe stare in disbelief in the direction of the villages where the youths were found after the New Year’s celebration.
The eight dead teenagers have already been identified and their bodies were brought in for an autopsy this afternoon.
An on-site inspection is underway to determine the exact cause of the gas leak.
The house itself was new and the owner must be questioned.
Due to the great tragedy, tomorrow a day of mourning has been declared throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
