EAL Announces Results of Additional AstraZeneca Vaccine Studies – Medications

The Astra Zeneca vaccine is safe. It cannot be linked to cases of thrombosis, the European Medicines Agency (EDA) said in a briefing.

A regulator opinion says the Oxford University and AstraZeneca preparation is safe and effective. The benefits of this vaccine far outweigh the risks, according to the regulator.

How much should we be concerned about information about clots and the Astra Zeneca vaccine?

Several countries have suspended immunizations with it after deaths caused by thrombosis and other clotting problems.

The agency’s chief executive, Emer Cook, said the cases were very rare among the millions vaccinated. He expressed his belief that the benefits of AstraZeneca outweigh the risks of side effects.

Cook explained that the assessment was based on the evidence available so far. We cannot establish a clear link between the vaccine and thrombosis, he added. According to her, in the future the vaccine brochures will specify that the formation of blood clots is one of the possible effects of the preparation.

“We will investigate more cases of thrombosis. So far 7 million people in the EU have been immunized with this vaccine, as well as 11 million in the UK,” Cook added.

The answer to some questions remains uncertain. As of yet, there is insufficient data to determine whether the vaccine is the cause of thrombocytopenia and cerebral thrombosis, added EAL inspection committee chair Sabine Strauss.

On March 12, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered immunization with the AstraZeneca vaccine to be suspended, while the European Medicines Agency dismissed all doubts about its safety in a written statement. This was made clear in a working meeting called by the Prime Minister.
