They broke the criminal group that imported half a ton of Colombian cocaine into our country, the Interior Ministry announced. The services of Spain, the Netherlands and Colombia also participated in the action.

On January 31, 2020, during a specialized operation in Sofia, more than 6,600 boxes of fruit imported from Colombia were seized, with almost 550 kg of cocaine impregnated in them for more than 19 million euros.

In the course of the investigation, 4 people were arrested in Bulgaria, 3 of whom were accused by the Special Prosecutor’s Office of participating in a criminal group organized by drug trafficking.

The investigation of the case established that the cocaine was imported from an international criminal network, whose subsequent objective was to organize a laboratory in Bulgarian territory, where the “chemists” could extract the drug and then transport it to the Kingdom of Spain and distribute it in the countries of La European Union.

The Colombian cocaine seizure is the result of Bulgaria’s participation in a joint investigation against an international criminal drug network with police and prosecutors in Spain, the Netherlands and Colombia, and with the assistance of Interpol and the US police.

The investigation of the international drug network began with the National Police of the Kingdom of Spain a year and a half ago. The reason for this is the data on trafficking in cooked cocaine, hidden in coffee, from Colombia through Greece to Bulgaria. Following the arrest in Sofia of the first shipment of cocaine to Europe, the investigation continues in other countries.

On April 14, 2020, the Netherlands police seized 1,200 kg of cartons of impregnated cocaine (again in the delivery of fruit from Colombia). Two laboratories with more than 1,000 liters of chemical extraction were also discovered.

This is the day that the investigators proceed to the final neutralization of the drug network as part of an international police operation called “CAKE DROWNED.” A total of 16 people have been detained in Spain, the Netherlands and Colombia.

More than 300 police officers participate in the group’s neutralization efforts. The total amount of cocaine imported from Colombia to Europe exceeds one ton. The police and judicial authorities involved in the case from Spain, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Colombia found that the criminal organization aimed to periodically import large quantities of cocaine from Colombia, which would be extracted and distributed in all European countries.
