The director of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Andon Baltakov, has resigned before the Council for Electronic Media (CEM). He announced it himself on the air of the weekly national radio review show “Something else.”
He told BNR that the modifications to the Radio and Television Law proposed by the Ministry of Culture, which were published on October 19 for public discussion, did not correspond to the changes in which representatives of the national radio and other experts in the field had worked. the last months. The project foresees a change in the financing of the two public media: BNT and BNR. According to Baltakov, he lacks regulations on how the two media outlets will be managed and what the mandate of their boards of directors will be.
“At Bulgarian National Radio we supported another bill, in which there were members, whom I personally motivated and who refer to the management of public media. We had established very clear positions on how the CEO will work with the boards of directors. new board members, with whom the next CEO will have to work in practice, not me, “Baltakov said, adding that he was pushing for the resignation of Culture Minister Boil Banov.
The president of the CEM, Betina Joteva, confirmed to Dnevnik that Baltakov had resigned this morning. He claims he wants to be released on November 1.
“I hope by then he thinks, because he’s a good director, he managed to calm things down on the radio and other things. I hope to convince him that there are many more things to fight for, ”said Joteva.
Baltakov was elected director in January this year, replacing Svetoslav Kostov, who was fired early by CEM in October last year after attempting to remove Horizon morning show host Silvia Velikova and the consequent unprecedented. suspension of the broadcast of the program “Horizon” on September 13, 2019. The term of the General Director of the Bulgarian National Radio is 3 years.
In the first months after taking office, Baltakov had problems with some members of the public radio board. This caused increased tension in the media, with more than 50 journalists demanding the resignation of the board. But then it is not known if he had any conflict or serious problems with this city council.
