We have the necessary number of votes necessary to convene a Grand National Assembly and a draft of a new Constitution, as required by the current Constitution. I want to thank everyone who supported the idea of GERB for provoking a debate in society. The procedure requires 120 signatures to be submitted first to launch an initiative for the SJC. Over the next two months, we will organize a series of public debates, a series of expert debates and seek an agreement. I hope this dialogue can dissuade those who initially said they would not support the project. This was stated to the media in parliament by the president of PG Daniela Daritkova of the GERB after the meeting with the IMRO deputies.
“For us, this is the idea of the procedure that we started. We believe that after 30 years of validity of the current Constitution, the social changes that have occurred and the expectations must be reflected in the basic law. That is why the procedure will begin after more than 120 signatures have been collected, “added Dr. Daritkova.
Dr. Daniela Daritkova announced that the draft of a new Constitution is supported by the partners of the GERB coalition in the person of NFSB and IMRO, part of the PG of “Will” and independent deputies.
What we have changed since the last revisions is that we have reorganized the members, basing the basic rights on the original part of the version. We have written a preamble, we have eliminated the possibility of legislative initiative of the judiciary, we have explicitly written the text of the Law of the Coat of Arms in the Constitution to be precise and describe in detail a number of other changes that you will see, said Dr. Daniela Daritkova.
He thanked his colleagues who supported the project.
I believe that the next debate will be fruitful in the interest of the Bulgarian citizens, added the GERB president.
The draft of a new Constitution that we are presenting is common. I would also like to express my satisfaction at the end of this debate. In fact, we had negotiations that lasted two days with colleagues from GERB. As you know, the draft of a new Constitution had many imperfections. The project we present is general in nature and responds to the main criticisms that were there for the original project and in practice it has nothing to do with it, explained IMRO Vice President Iskren Veselinov.
He noted that the most important thing for IMRO is to remain the preamble, the state of a single nation and the declaration that Bulgarians are one nation.
We reinforce this national sound, because in the preamble we add the commitment of the state to defend national values, Veselinov added.
The IMRO vice president pointed out as a success in the negotiations the promotion of the birth rate, the rights of Bulgarian communities abroad and others, as well as the proof that voting is a civil duty and that marriage is only between a man and woman.
