CSKA ended their participation in the group stage of the Europa League with their heads held high. The Reds, who so far had not scored a goal in Group A of the tournament, domesticated Roma 3: 1 at the “Vasil Levski” National Stadium. Ali Sow broke out with two goals, and the CSKA goal before Thiago Rodríguez broke. Tomaso Milanese, 18 years old, performed for the “wolves”. Thus, CSKA finished with 5 points in the group. The Roma team had secured first place and won the group with 13 points.
Before the start of the match there was a minute of silence in memory of Italian and world football legend Paolo Rossi.
CSKA started the game actively. Georgi Yomov came out in a good shooting position and for the moment took a shot at the “wolves” door. However, Jesús blocked the shot and the ball went to a corner.
In the 5th minute CSKA finally broke the hook and scored a goal in the Europa League group stage. Bradley Maziku crossed brilliantly from the left wing, but Yunus Sankare missed. She hit her supporting leg and ended up on Thiago Rodríguez, who shot the Roma goalkeeper – 1: 0 for CSKA.
Another strong attack by CSKA followed. In the 9th minute, Valentin Antov took Georgi Yomov off the right wing in a wonderful way. The young man almost immediately tried to shoot Ali Sow, who was alone in shooting position. The Roma defender still killed the ball.
In the 22nd minute, young Roma talent Tomaso Milanese managed to equalize. He received a great pass from Borja Mayoral, who previously controlled the ball in a great way in the CSKA penalty area. The shot of the 18-year-old Milanese was inescapable for Gustavo Busato.
In the 31st minute, CSKA failed to score a second goal. Thiago Rodríguez was removed wonderfully by Amos Yuga. The Portuguese went out alone before the goalkeeper. Juan Giuseppe lies down and catches up to Tiago, who instantly adjusted to shoot and did. Unfortunately for the Reds, his shot flew over the left post of Roma goalkeeper Boer.
Just four minutes later, CSKA took the lead again. After an ugly mistake in the Roma defense, Jefferson put Ali Sow alone against goalkeeper Boer. The forward of the ‘reds’ tamed the ball, looked towards where the point guard was and beat him very coldly by 2: 1 in favor of CSKA.
Roma missed a good chance to equalize in the 40th minute. Amadou Diavara crossed the center with a huge stride. He made an excellent pass to Carles Pérez, who was busy, missed the moment to shoot and his shot was blocked by Sancare.
Roma created a good opportunity to score early in the second half. Borja Mayoral was in a great position in the CSKA penalty area. He fired, but Gustavo Busato shortened the corner and took a corner kick.
In the 55th minute, Ali Sow took advantage of another ugly mistake in the Roma defense. Federico Fazio gave the ball to Ali Sow, who was left alone before goalkeeper Boer. The “Reds” forward shot immediately and went through the “Wolves” goalkeeper – 3: 1 for CSKA.
CSKA started having fun. In the 59th minute Bradley Maziku came out on the left wing, which he crossed. Ali Sow threw himself, but did not knock on Rome’s door.
In the following minutes, Bruno Akrapovic’s players returned home and closed the roads to Gustavo Busato’s door. Rome never managed to create a clean situation. Only Carles Pérez tried to score from a direct free kick, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the aftermath, Borja Mayoral also failed closely.
Thus, CSKA defeated Roma and successfully completed their participation in the Europa League this season!
