CSKA has officially confirmed the news that circulates in the British media since today: Alan Pardew is surprisingly the new sporting and technical director of the club. The position was vacated two months ago by Italian Cristiano Jarretta.
English is an extremely popular figure on the island, and it is there that the local media assure that he is already in negotiations for the position and has even traveled to Sofia. Interestingly, Pardew was also linked as a candidate for the coaching position 2-3 weeks ago, but CSKA appointed Bruno Akrapovich.
“Army men,
English football specialist Alan Pardew will from now on be part of the great red family of the Army.
He will assume the position of “Technical Director” and will help with his vast experience and contacts in the general development of the club and in attracting players to the representative team. The 59-year-old Briton has already signed his personal contract and started working immediately.
Welcome to the Army, Mr. Alan Pardew! ” it says in the official announcement on the CSKA website.
The 59-year-old former Crystal Palace, Charlton and Tottenham player has had a very strong coaching career and is among the popular names in the coaching profession on the Island in the new century.
Especially with his spells at Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Ham, with the latter two teams he not only made serious seasons in the Premier League, but also reached two FA Cup finals, lost to Manchester United and Liverpool.

In 2012, Pardew was selected as the manager for season 1 of the season. At the time, he led the Newcastle team, surprisingly leading the Magpies to fifth place in the Premier League and playing in the Europa League.
He last worked on the island for four months in 2018, when he was manager of West Bromwich Albion.
He then moved on to sports analysis on Sky Sports, and at the end of last year he took over the Dutch challenge Ado Den Haag, which ended after the forced suspension of the local championship due to the pandemic. He has been out of work since April, although he has been mentioned several times as an option to fire coaches in English clubs.
He is considered one of the most influential experts on the Island of the last decade, and also very colorful, especially with the dances near the goal line, which he showed after Palace’s goal in the final against United in 2016. It turned out to be rather hastily and the “red devils” turned the game around, but Pardew’s footsteps on the “dance floor” near the “Wembley” field remain in English football folklore.
He was also embroiled in a scandal when he headbutted Hull footballer David Meller during Newcastle’s 2014 game with this team. He was fined £ 100,000 and his conduct was called “inadmissible” by a manager.
At CSKA, the sporting director position was vacated after Jarrett’s departure. Pardew has been in Sofia for several days, has met with the club’s leaders and has already seen several team training sessions.
His first match will be against the Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday, when he will sit in the box at the “Vasil Levski” stadium already in his role as director of the “reds”.
