New CSKA coach Bruno Akrapovich took the Bulgarian Cup to the “Army” in this year’s final. He then led Lokomotiv (Plovdiv), who triumphed with the award after penalties. The Bosnian also won the Cup in the 2018/19 season, when Loko’s city rival Botev was defeated in the match for the trophy.

CSKA won the Cup in the 2015/16 season. The achievement is still historic, because then the “reds” were in group “B”. No team had ever won such a low-level trophy in our football. It will hardly ever be repeated … Then CSKA achieved 10 consecutive victories: over Sofia 2010, September (Sofia), Saraya, Botev (Ihtiman), Neftohimik, Spartak (Pleven), Sozopol, Beroe (twice) and Montana.

3 of the last 5 editions of the tournament were won by CSKA and Bruno. Now they come together to succeed together. The start is this Saturday, November 14. The Reds play Botev (Ihtiman) at the Bulgarian Army Stadium in the round of 16 of the Cup. The match will be Bruno Akrapovich’s official debut as the 31-time champion of Bulgaria.

What did CSKA do for the Cup after winning it in 2016? During the following campaign, the “reds” exposed themselves and abandoned their first rival: a 1: 2 defeat against Lokomotiv (Sofia), exactly in the 1/16 of the final. In the 2017/18 season, CSKA defeated Nessebar and Botev (Vratsa). In the quarter-finals he managed to beat Ludogorets 2: 1 after the extension of the “Army”, but lost to Levski in the semifinals – 0: 2 and 2: 2. It has already been a matter of this year’s lost final by Loko. In 2018/19, CSKA again disputed the semifinals, where they bowed their heads to the other Plovdiv great – Botev (2: 3 loss to Komatevo and 3: 3 draw against “Army”). Before the matches with the “Canaries” Montana, Vitosha and again Ludogorets were eliminated, this time with 1: 0 in Razgrad.

Thus, during the last 5 years, CSKA has won the Cup once, once lost a final, twice withdrew in the semi-finals and once ended their participation in the 1/16 finals. A new march towards the trophy begins on Saturday. With united forces between the “Army” and the man with the glasses – Bruno Akrapovich.
