With a goal in added time, Chelsea drew 3: 3 as a guest of West Bromwich Albion in a match on Matchday 3 of the English Premier League.
Both teams contested one of the strangest early times, as the hosts inflicted three strong blows (two goals from Callum Robinson and one goal from Kyle Bartley) until the 28th minute, although they were totally outmatched by the blues.
The logic of The Hawthorns Stadium began to return after the break, when Mason Mount (55 minutes) and Callum Hudson-Odoy (70 minutes) returned the intrigue. In the 93rd minute Tammy Abraham gave his team the deserved point.
Chelsea came sixth with a 4-point lead, while West Bromwich Albion came out of the danger zone and is now 15th with one point.
The Thrushes opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Callum Robinson hit home in the first interesting situation. He entered the penalty area after a pass from Mateusz Pereira and fired a diagonal shot with his left foot, finding the lower right corner.
Little by little, Chelsea picked up speed and got into several very dangerous situations. Mason Mount passed Kai Havertz, who bet on a very strong shot, but Sam Johnston saved. So Tammy Abraham made a big mistake when she jumped out the door from a good position.
A quarter of an hour after the referee’s initial signal and the crossbar helped the hosts, denying Timo Werner his first goal for the “blues”. And this time the credit for the situation went to Mount, and the dominant guests only lacked the precision of the finishing blow.
As is often the case in football, subsequent events had nothing to do with logic, because UBA doubled its lead, and Robinson again scald the opponent, and Chelsea’s new addition Thiago Silva made a mistake in the defending.
Even before half an hour of play expired, the impact for the Londoners became complete: 3: 0 for the UBA! Kyle Bartley was left completely alone on the brink of the small penalty and scored flawlessly in the near corner, as the ambush in this case was obscured by Reese James’ failed retirement.
Right after the break, Chelsea continued to dominate and played the ball very well, but the last pass didn’t work. However, the logical thing happened ten minutes after the restart of the game, when one of the best in the field Mason Mount found the bottom left corner with a beating outside the penalty area.
Twenty minutes before the end of regulation time, Chelsea’s assertive play paid off and Callum Hudson-Odoy returned to the battle for the point after a combination with Kai Haverts and a well-aimed shot in the lower right corner.
Robson-Canoe missed one of West Bromwich’s rare chances in the second half when the ball he threw flew over the crossbar. At this point, Chelsea was already losing the initiative and fatigue was beginning to weigh on Frank Lampard’s players.
In the 89th minute, Timo Werner fired an accurate but relatively weak shot, which even turned out to be a pass to UBA goalkeeper Sam Johnston.
In the 93rd minute, justice continued to prevail and Chelsea took the point with a goal from Tammy Abraham. He only had to make one addition on an empty net, before Johnston hadn’t intervened in the best way with Mount’s diagonal low shot.
