COVID-19 also reached Antarctica. The continent is no longer the only one without a case of coronavirus infection. It turns out that 36 people from the Chilean scientific station have COVID-19.

Cases of coronavirus infection have been found at the “Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme” Antarctic scientific station, reported the newspaper Tercera, cited by BGNES.

Of the 36 patients, 26 are military and the remaining 10 are employees of the subcontractor company, which carries out the planned activities at the base.

All those infected were evacuated by medical scientists after symptoms appeared and then underwent PCR testing.

Virtually all Chilean military personnel on mission at the Arctic base are infected. After their evacuation, the facilities were completely disinfected.

According to the publication, on December 17 the Chilean Navy announced that the crew of the ship “Sargento Aldea” has started a preventive quarantine after three cases of coronavirus were registered among the 208 crew members.

The ship visited the Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme base from November 27 to December 10.
