Coronavirus testing areas will be opened in some of the Diagnostic and Consulting Centers in Sofia and the larger cities, Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov announced today in an extraordinary briefing. The reason for its celebration on Sunday afternoon was the entry of the entire country into the red zone in terms of morbidity and the state’s measures to face the pressure on the health system.
The Minister announced that a reorganization of medical care in the country is underway, which was scheduled to take place upon reaching a two-week morbidity of more than 300 patients per 100,000 inhabitants, which is already a fact. BGN 80 million is planned to finance the reorganization, and the government will vote on its concession at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, probably tomorrow.
The opening of the COVID zones in the old polyclinics is part of the plan and will cost around BGN 3 million per month. A doctor, a nurse and a laboratory assistant will work in the areas of the former polyclinics. DCCs will perform examinations, a coronavirus test, blood tests and, if necessary, an X-ray. Some 3 million will be earmarked for this purpose, of which BGN 1,000 will go towards the salaries of the employees of the new centers.
DCCs will also receive BGN 10 for each exam. The money will be distributed by managers to employees who are directly involved in patient care. Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova announced that the first coronavirus testing areas could open on Wednesday in some of Sofia’s former polyclinics.
Fandakova: we also have new restrictive measures in mind
Fandakova said she had commissioned the DCC in Sofia to open COVID zones to reduce pressure on hospitals in the capital.
“The number of hospitalized in Sofia is increasing. Even in the days when we have fewer patients after the tests. Today alone 1252 people are hospitalized in Sofia, of which 141 for intensive care. The growth since yesterday is 84. This shows “There is enormous pressure on the hospitals in Sofia and no matter how much the number of beds and capacity increases. Something that Minister Angelov announced and will happen all the time, we cannot afford to put hospitals in this situation, “said Fandakova.
There is no longer a shortage of intensive beds for coronavirus patients in Sofia, like last week, the minister said. “We discuss hospital by hospital how many new beds will be opened,” Angelov added. In response to questions, the minister said that there was no evidence in Sofia of a problem with the admission of patients with lung diseases. “There is no order not to accept patients with address registration in one area in a hospital in another,” said the Minister. According to her, the restrictive measures applied at this time are sufficient and if they are observed there will be a decrease in the number of If the upward trend continues with new cases The Minister of Education has given freedom not only at the municipal level, but also at the level of individual educational institutions to decide whether to approve training in the lower secondary education course in schools where there are a concentration of people and a danger of spreading the infection to online learning.
BGN 1,000 extra for GPs
In addition, BGN 5 million will be paid per month for the work of general practitioners, and each of them will receive BGN 1,000, added the Health Minister.
15 million BGN will be delivered for the purchase of antigenic tests, which quickly detect the presence of coronavirus in the body. They will be used at the mobile points in front of the hospitals, which opened this week, as well as at the DCC offices. The minister asked them to address only people with symptoms (see more here)
The provision to open beds for coronavirus patients in hospitals is increasing from 10 to 20%, said Professor Angelov.
15 additional emergency teams in Sofia
21 emergency aid teams, 10 teams from the Interior Ministry and 5 paramedics and a driver are working in Sofia to transport patients with health problems to hospitals, the director of emergency aid in Sofia Georgi Gelev said today. Even they couldn’t handle all the requests. At 5 in the afternoon, 70 people with suspected coronavirus were transferred and 7 were admitted to the hospital. Another 100 were in ambulance standby mode.
In response to a question, Gelev said there were no specialized ambulances for transporting coronavirus-infected people and people with other health problems. After each course, a person with COVID-19 symptoms is disinfected. In the van portion of the ambulance there were UV lamps, which are a powerful disinfection tool.
