German authorities have launched a criminal investigation into a young woman suspected of causing a coronavirus outbreak in southern Germany after visiting several bars, despite having symptoms of a coronavirus, the DPA reported, citing prosecutors.

The prosecution said it was investigating a possible violation of quarantine regulations and alleged damage to health as a result of criminal negligence.

The investigation is directed against a 26-year-old American woman who lives in the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a popular winter resort at the foot of Germany’s highest peak – the Zugspitze.

The woman visited several bars in the city, although she showed symptoms of the virus, which was later confirmed by tests. According to local authorities, it has infected many people.

The detainee worked in a hotel for soldiers of the United States Armed Forces and their families in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The complex announced on its website that it will be closed for two weeks starting today.
