An additional COVID ward is being considered at Alexandrovska Hospital because the beds for coronavirus patients are full. This is what the director of the medical institution, Prof. Boris Bogov, told BTV.

He added that there was a meeting with the Minister of Health, in which it was discussed that the 90 hospitals in the city of Sofia should open rooms for the coronavirus. So far, only 13 hospitals have it. “We also have a case from last night where a patient with a positive test is waiting in the Emergency Department because there are no beds in our hospital. I hope to find a solution at 2 o’clock,” Bogov said. He explained that infected people who come by ambulance do not return, but there are cases in which they have not gone through the RHI system, where there is a coordination center, but they come on their own, there may be a problem especially when there are no beds.

There are 15 COVID-19 patients at Alexandrovska Hospital, 5 are in the intensive care unit, and two are intubated. 14 medical staff also tested positive. In addition, many front-line doctors no longer want additional payment, but a break, said the director of Alexandrovska Hospital. “There is the option of transferring colleagues to COVID wards if they are discovered, but other patients with chronic and serious illnesses may be affected,” he added.

According to Bogov, there will be a 35% increase in the number of infected people next month, and 10-12% will need hospitalization. According to him, the beds are not a problem, but the lack of specialists.
