Anton Hekimyan is now the new director of bTV “News, Current Affairs and Sports” after taking over from Venelin Petkov.
The promotion for the 36-year-old host of “This Morning” came from new bTV CEO Martin Schwehlak, who had the ambition to raise television ratings, attracting more viewers and users from all of his channels.
The Czech was impressed by Hekimyan’s professionalism in presenting topics and reports, as well as his great dedication to the job. He invited him to a conversation last Friday and two days later announced that he was going to appoint the Armenian to the post of director. Consequently, his salary has been increased.
According to a Weekend source, Anton’s salary is almost double and he will now receive around BGN 12,000 per month. Hekimyan’s ambitions are to attract even more viewers in front of the bTV screen. You will have to choose who will replace you as the host of the morning block. According to sources in the newsroom, the invitation was addressed to Maria Tsancarova. However, the journalist was not sure he would accept.
“In 2020, bTV had to adapt its show to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to less investment in content and loss of viewers. My main goal is to reverse this trend by modernizing the show and content and working for more diverse entertainment and high-quality news across all of our channels.

Venelin Petkov’s fate is unknown. He is the father of a one-month-old baby from his colleague Nikoleta Madanska, who is a sports news anchor. Petkov was scalded when informed, writes Weekend.
