Bulgarians caught in cyclone Yanos in Greece (VIDEO)

Mediterranean cyclone Janos hits western Greece. The element caught the Bulgarian tourists on the island of Kefalonia.

Our compatriot sent images of the disaster that flooded the car in which they were traveling. She and her boyfriend have been on vacation on the island for 7 days and are now worried that they will be able to return home with their car.

Our embassy in Athens reports that they have established contact with the Bulgarian woman and her family, have been provided with the necessary information and our diplomatic mission is ready to provide additional assistance if necessary.

At the moment, the Foreign Ministry has no data on the Bulgarians injured in the storm. On the island of Kefalonia there are data on 8 Bulgarian citizens who did not request help.

In relation to cyclone Yanos, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on our compatriots to avoid traveling to these areas, and those who are there to follow the instructions of the local authorities. The recommendations are that people stay in their homes until the storm subsides.

A powerful cyclone struck the west coast of Greece last night with winds of more than 120 kilometers per hour and torrential rains. The disaster caused severe material damage to the Ionian islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Ithaca.

So far no victims have been reported. Civil Protection constantly works on signs for fallen trees and flooded houses. Eight districts in western Greece have declared a state of emergency.

The cyclone is moving south and will remain very dangerous in the coming hours, meteorologists warn. According to local authorities, the next few hours will be the most critical.

In the event of a crisis or crisis situation abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Bulgarian citizens register on the Ministry’s website www.mfa.bg/bg/embassyinfo/ or with a Bulgarian diplomatic mission, in person by phone or email as well as providing a contact person (relative) in Bulgaria. In case of modification of the data provided, citizens are called to inform them in due time.
