The Bulgarian soccer team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat in official matches. Georgi Dermendzhiev’s team lost 1: 2 to Finland in a Nations League match.

The guests went ahead with goals from Teemu Puki and Robin Lod in the first half. Subsequently, the Bulgarians received two penalties, the first was missed by Galin Ivanov and the second opportunity was scored by Dimitar Iliev.

The national team remains last in the group with one point from five games, and the Irish are third with two. On Wednesday, the two teams will meet in a direct clash for survival, and only a victory will save the Bulgarians from relegation to the third division of the Nations League.

In the game with Finland, defense problems in the composition of Bulgaria were again evident. The national team played better in the second half, but the chances of scoring were very few.

The Finns took the lead in the seventh minute, when the defense failed at Puki. The striker escaped and had no trouble signing against goalkeeper Martin Lukov.

The Bulgarians responded with an accurate shot from Yanis Karabelov. Later, Ivanov intercepted a dangerous cross from Strahil Popov as the ball went through the door.

At the end of the first half, an error by the right defender led to Finland’s second goal. Initially, Lukov intervened in Puki’s shot, but Lod scored the rebound.

In the 60th minute a good combination of Spas Delev and Dominik Yankov ended with a foul against the latter. The national team received a penalty but was unable to reduce the score after Lukasz Hradecki saved Ivanov’s shot.

A few minutes later, the Bulgarians had a new opportunity. The referee awarded a second penalty for playing with his hand in the penalty area, this time behind the ball was Iliev. The forward scored and the goal returned the intrigue to the game.

However, until the end, the national team did not threaten Hradecki’s door.
