Bulgaria achieved their first victory in a year
The Bulgarian soccer team returned to victory after losing five of their last six matches. The team led by Georgi Dermendzhiev beat Gibraltar 3-0 in a friendly match in Sofia.
All three goals were scored in the first half by Alexander Tsvetkov, Georgi Yomov and Dimitar Iliev.
The success came before the games with Finland and Ireland in the League of Nations.
Coach Georgi Dermendzhiev was forced to make many changes due to problems with most of his main players.
The difference in the classes was visible and in minute 14 Bulgaria already led by two goals. In the fifth minute, rival goalkeeper Kyle Goldwyn made a mistake and fell to the ground, and after play continued Iliev released Tsvetkov, who opened with a strong blow.
A little later, Strahil Popov passed Yomov, and the CSKA player entered the penalty area and doubled. Bulgaria had omissions to reach the last seconds of the first half. Then Iliev intercepted Yomov’s cross with his head.
After the break the level dropped and there were not many exciting moments, as no new goals were scored.
