Today at 12 noon, Bulgaria resumes flights from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, which were suspended due to the new strain of COVID-19. Passengers arriving from the UK will be screened with antigen tests and placed in a 10-day quarantine. And as of January 1, a negative urinal test will be required 72 hours before the arrival of travelers to our country.
This was decided in a working meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov and Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rosen Zhelyazkov said the cabinet press service.
Prime Minister Borissov ordered the responsible ministers to issue the necessary orders so that all Bulgarian citizens can return today. “In this case, the price is irrelevant if you consider
the tension, fear and waiting on the borders of our compatriots. So work, including government, Airbus is available, ready to fly if needed, as it was during the first wave of the coronavirus, ”said the prime minister.
The Minister of Health, Kostadin Angelov, reported that the performance of an antigen test is introduced upon the arrival of the United Kingdom to the territory of Bulgaria, which has the same weight as the urinal test. “And after the New Year, we introduce the requirement of the presentation of a urinal test, as are the EU recommendations. The urinal test will have to be performed 72 hours before arrival on the Bulgarian territory,” Angelov explained. To this end, an airport organization is created in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas and Varna.
Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov appealed not to make insignificant trips, as ordered by the EC. According to him, after the transitional period, starting at midnight on January 1, 2021, measures against those arriving from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will be considered.
Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva assured that the Bulgarian Embassy in Great Britain provides full assistance to Bulgarian citizens. She noted that her collection is
extremely difficult due to limited flights from almost 20 European countries. Zaharieva added that after the 48-hour border between France and the UK was closed, it was now open, but required an AKP or antigen test.
Zaharieva also said that many Bulgarians are struggling in Britain. “There are many Bulgarians who have abandoned their accommodation, whose employment contracts have been terminated, as well as students who, due to the difficult situation there, have been asked to leave their dormitories and who are in a difficult situation and not have a place to live.
