Bulgaria is discussing an eighth vaccine against COVID-19

“All EU member states have invested together in the creation of seven vaccines. They will come at different times, and each of them has its own uniqueness. This is good, because when they are delivered to our country, Bulgarian citizens will be sufficiently informed about which vaccine they would prefer to receive. ” This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in a working meeting in the Council of Ministers. It became clear that Bulgaria is currently discussing at the expert level to participate in an order for the supply of the eighth vaccine, which will be on the market by the end of 2021, BGNES reported.

Before the Prime Minister, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov and the Head of State Health Inspectors, Prof. Angel Kunchev, presented the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, which will be approved at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday. The composition of the National Vaccination Headquarters will also be approved.

The Health Minister also reported that logistics work continues with the provision of refrigerators in which to store the first deliveries of vaccines, which require storage at low temperatures. Angelov added that the coronavirus immunization plan was created based on the experience of countries like Germany and proven international institutions like the WHO.

“The plan is really ready at the moment, we are ready to meet tomorrow if the vaccines arrive,” said Professor Krassimir Gigov, president of the National Vaccination Headquarters. He added that prominent specialists and representatives of the responsible ministries will be included at the headquarters.

“The groups with which the vaccination will begin have been determined, the first are the doctors, nurses, paramedics, employees of the Ministry of the Interior, who are also on the front line, followed by people over 70 years old,” added the professor. Gigov and stressed that in The plan he will describe in detail all the parameters of immunization activity.

Prime Minister Borissov pointed out that the moment the first vaccine arrives, the state will be ready for any Bulgarian who asks to be given it voluntarily and completely free of charge. This guarantees synchronicity in the joint work between the National Operational Headquarters and the vaccination headquarters.

In order to promote a strict organization on vaccination, the country will be divided into 7 regions.

“In them will be located the responsible Regional Health Inspectorates, which are responsible for the respective region with clearly defined logistical connections between the respective RHIs in this region,” said Health Minister Kostadin Angelov. He added that mobile teams are being organized, which will reach the places where it is necessary to immunize a large group of Bulgarians, such as nursing homes and schools.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Borissov also reported on the strict organization of supplying the health system with personal protective equipment, disinfectants and providing all the necessary medicines for the treatment of the coronavirus. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov demanded to continue with the delivery of the necessary quantities of rescue drugs against the new virus, including remdesivir. The Prime Minister pointed out that the drug is absolutely free for all Bulgarian citizens. The government has provided more than 17,000 additional packages worth nearly BGN 15 million.

“Therefore, each doctor who prescribes remdesivir will reach his patient as many vials as he needs,” Borissov was quoted as saying by the government press service. He pointed out how important it is for the fight against COVID-19 the delivery yesterday of more than 300,000 doses of low molecular weight heparin, which guarantees the success of the therapy of patients.
