6,895 candidates fight for 240 MP banks
Bulgaria votes in ordinary parliamentary elections. After the vote, the new 45th National Assembly will be formed and a new government will be proposed. Today’s elections are more special, because for the first time in our country there is a vote in a pandemic.
The country is divided into 31 multi-member electoral districts. The battle involves 30 parties and coalitions. 6,895 candidates fight for 240 MP banks. According to preliminary lists, just over 6,732,000 people have the right to vote.
In these elections our compatriots abroad will vote in a record number of sections – 465. There the vote will be only with ballots, but in our country in 9398 sections, voters will be able to choose how to exercise their right to vote – with paper or machine.
A day of reflection before the parliamentary vote
The polling stations in our country opened at exactly 7:00 a.m. and will accept voters until 8:00 p.m. If there are still people waiting in front of an electoral college, the members of the commission must collect their identification cards and allow them to vote, but no later than 9:00 p.m.
Due to COVID-19, the members of the polling stations had to be vaccinated. Bulgarians in quarantine were also allowed to vote with mobile ballot boxes.
There will be increased security measures throughout the country. The use of masks will be monitored. All participants in the electoral process will receive protective masks and disinfectants.
