We observe a constant trend of increasing the number of people cured in the context of the newly infected. This was announced by the Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov in the weekly briefing of the health authorities on the course of the pandemic in our country.

Less dead and again very cured of COVID-19

“We are not happy that we have many people cured. We want Bulgarian citizens to be healthy to receive the vaccine. Then we must achieve herd immunity to fight this disease,” added Professor Angelov.

The optimistic trend was also reported by the Head of State Health Inspectors, Prof. Angel Kunchev. “Bulgaria is already 24th in terms of morbidity in the European Union and third in terms of mortality,” he said. There is no longer an area in our country with more than 600 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Chief of the National Operations Staff, Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski pointed out that it is difficult to draw general conclusions during the holidays. However, he added that the pressure on hospitals in the capital has eased.

Currently in the Academy of Military Medicine, and not only, there is a decrease of about 40-50%. Regardless of the holidays, we received people with severe respiratory failure who needed oxygen therapy. These patients have decreased, ”he added.

Another 20,000 vaccines will be delivered on January 4

Minister Angelov also commented on the vaccination campaign started against COVID-19.

“We will try to give every possible argument to convince Bulgarian citizens of the benefits of vaccination. The Ministry of Health will not become a distributor or advertise any vaccine – manufacturers must do so,” Professor Angelov said.

The single information portal will now show updated information on the number of vaccinated in our country.

The second delivery of the Pfizer vaccine is expected early next week. About 25,000 doses will arrive in Bulgaria by plane.

“The next quantity is expected to arrive on January 4-5. Some 35,000 doses will be delivered by mid-January,” said Bogdan Kirilov, director of the Executive Agency for Medicines.

Associate Professor Kunchev stated that the European Medicines Agency is expected to approve the Moderna vaccine on January 6. If this happens, there will be an opportunity to immunize more people.

The Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev and the director of “Pirogov” Prof. Asen Baltov expressed their support for the planned opening of kindergartens, kindergartens and schools for students up to 4th grade from January 4. Minister Valchev said that the authorities will monitor the development of the situation and, based on the data received, will decide when to return the older students to class.

In case the situation worsens after the children return to the classroom, they will switch back to distance education.

“Health is the most important thing, but we cannot ignore the fact that we have a moral problem: passing all the burden on to future generations,” said Education Minister Krassimir Valchev.

“It is extremely important for us, especially for children in grades 1-4 and for those in kindergartens and kindergartens, to have the physical presence of a teacher so that they can learn to write. And the parents of these children to be able to go to work ”, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov is categorical.

“Let’s send this sick year into the world and welcome the new year with more optimism,” Borissov said at a working meeting before the briefing. He was adamant that with the help of vaccines and anti-epidemic measures, Bulgaria will be able to emerge from the pandemic.

Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov expressed his disappointment at the organization of a festive concert in Gabrovo, despite the imposed measures, and called the event a “mistake”.

The briefing of the health authorities on the last day of 2020 began in an unconventional way.

“2020 was declared by the WHO as the year of the nurse and the midwife. Dear nurses, dear midwives and health professionals, we feel support and strength on your face. To thank all the nurses, I have invited the oldest active nurse in Bulgaria – Ms Tsenka Doseva, “said the Minister of Health. He then presented Doseva with the highest badge of honor from the Ministry of Health on behalf of the prime minister and government.
